The Family Is of God Video - In German!

A member in Germany asked if I would mind translating the video into German. I hope I did okay. I don't speak German, so I just took the words and matched them to the music. There's two versions. There's one with the English music and then one with just the music and no words.

Here's the one with the English music:

If you watch it and see that there's things that need to be fixed, please let me know and I'll get them fixed. Thanks!

I've been keeping my primary kids posted about where our video goes, so I'd appreciate it if you'd leave me comments on where you're from. Also, I think I speak for us all when I say, share away! We all want to know how your kids enjoyed the videos and maybe different ways you taught the songs.

Thanks to you all for your love and kindness!

New Email Address

Hi Everyone! I'm so, so excited that so many of you from around the world have felt the spirit I'd hoped for when I made the videos. It seems that late at night (between 1 and 3 am) the spirit works the best! :o) Because I've gotten so many requests, I've set up a new email account to go hand in hand with the blog. It is singingasongisfuntodo@gmail.com. Easy to remember. That way, if you have any problems or need some help with something, you won't have to check out the blog to find my email.

Thanks again for everyone's words of support, love and encouragement. It's amazing how we members of the Church stick together. Since you guys are so great, I've decided that I'll do a video every month. I'm going to also try (we'll see how time goes) to do flip charts to accompany the videos. For the months that you choose your own song, I'll give you the video that I have chosen and if you have a different song and would like for me to make a video, just let me know and I'll be more than happy to.

All I ask in return is for you to share the videos around the world (don't be stingy:o) and to leave comments on how it went, how you taught it, and where you're from. I'd like for everyone who has this common link to share with each other and to become friends. Because really, what are we without each other?

So, sing on and let us all know how it goes!

Thanks so much!

I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words. Your response to this has been so wonderfully supportive! It amazes me that members from Australia to England and all over the US have wanted copies. I didn't think my small attempt to teach my primary kids this song would bring so many of us together. Thank you! As of Friday, January 9th at 4:10 pm, I've sent out links to all the emails and comments I've gotten. If you sent an email or left a comment and haven't received an email back, PLEASE let me know and I'll email it right out. Again, thanks to all of you for your support and kindness. Also, I'd love to know how your primary kids enjoyed it and different ways you taught it, so don't be shy, comment away!

My Eternal Family Video

Edit: If you'd like a copy of the video, please go here: http://singingasongisfuntodo.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-place-to-download.html. After you've downloaded it you can use any dvd burning software to burn it to a dvd. If you have any problems, just let me know. Thanks!

Here is the video for My Eternal Family. If anyone would like the file please let me know. I would be happy to send it to you. I almost forgot to thank Melanie at www.sugardoodle.net. If it weren't for her wonderful clip art there wouldn't be any videos. She does an amazing job with her website. There are so many resources for every part of the church, not just primary. So, thanks Melanie!

Teaching The Family Is of God

It went really well today. I showed the kids the video first so they could get a feel for the music and the words. They were glued to the TV, but I think that's mostly because we don't often watch tv in primary. During the video, I could hear a few of the kids singing along. I think that's because the week before I passed out CDs with all the songs on them. I think when they have that little extra help in their home it makes it easier for them to learn the songs. After the movie, we talked a little bit about families and the different make-up of families. I was a little nervous about venturing into this territory because I didn't want any of the kids to feel bad or get offended if I said the wrong thing. Fortunately, it went well. I went phrase by phrase to teach them the song. I'll explain it and if you have any questions, let me know.

Our Father has a family - I used my own family picture to illustrate the family. I joked around a little bit and told them that because I didn't have any family pictures of their families hanging on their wall I had to use my own.

It's me! It's you, all others too. - I made some signs to hang around their necks. There were separate ones for "It's me!", "It's you!", and "all", "others", and "too" each had their own sign. They turned out really cute. It was bright green lettering on black paper with bright green ribbon to go around their necks. I think they got a kick out of how bright they were. They sang the loudest during that part and I'm not sure if had to do with the exclamation point at the end of "me" or if they were just humoring me.

I taught "we are His children" without any props. I told them to think about how everyone of us is a child of God.

He sent each one of us to earth - I had originally looked for a picture of the earth, but the library didn't have one. They did have a globe though, so I used that.

through birth - I stole one of my little girls baby dolls and swaddled her up.

To live and learn here in fam'lies - I had them look at the family picture again.

God gave us families - Family picture again. I know, it's original. :o) This week though, I'm going to get family pictures of kids in the ward and use those for each family phrase.

to help us become what He wants us to be- I had a picture of the temple, because at such a young age they learn that that's what they need to do to go back to Heavenly Father.

This is how He shares His love - I cut out a huge red heart so they'd remember Heavenly Fathers love.

for the family is of God. - Again with the family picture.

In my humble opinion, I think it worked. They seemed enthusiastic and excited to learn it. I think having them involved is what makes it go so well. I'm always open to ideas to make things run more smoothly, so if any of you have any suggestions or things I can change, feel free to let me know.

I was going to post the "My Eternal Family" video, but it's on the laptop downstairs and I'm upstairs and sometimes don't ya feel just a little lazy? I know I do. So, tomorrow. For sure. I promise. :o)

New Year, New Theme, New Songs, Yeah!

I am so excited about the new years theme and songs. The theme is, "My Eternal Family". It's going to be fun teaching the kids the new songs but it's also going to be a little tricky. Because so many families are different, I've decided to teach them about all the different families. For example, just moms, just dads, kids who might live with their grandparents or aunts and uncles. I don't want any child to feel that just because they might come from a non-traditional family that they won't have the same blessings as a child who may come from a traditional family. I looked all over online to find something to explain it to them and I found this video from Sesame Street. I love the message and am going to teach it to the kids. Hopefully that will bridge the gap any of them may feel.

For the month of January we are learning "The Family Is of God". I spent a few hours the other night (I'm a little bit of a procrastinator sometimes) making a video of this song and "My Eternal Family" (the song for March). I wanted to share, so feel free to let me know if you want either of them and I'll send you the files. I'm posting "The Family Is of God" now and I'll post the other tomorrow. I'm showing the kids the video and then using some props to teach them the first verse. I'll let you know how that goes tomorrow.

EDIT: If you'd like the video, please go here: http://singingasongisfuntodo.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-place-to-download.html. After you download the video, you can use any dvd burning software and burn it to a dvd to show on tv. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks!
