New Year, New Theme, New Songs, Yeah!

I am so excited about the new years theme and songs. The theme is, "My Eternal Family". It's going to be fun teaching the kids the new songs but it's also going to be a little tricky. Because so many families are different, I've decided to teach them about all the different families. For example, just moms, just dads, kids who might live with their grandparents or aunts and uncles. I don't want any child to feel that just because they might come from a non-traditional family that they won't have the same blessings as a child who may come from a traditional family. I looked all over online to find something to explain it to them and I found this video from Sesame Street. I love the message and am going to teach it to the kids. Hopefully that will bridge the gap any of them may feel.

For the month of January we are learning "The Family Is of God". I spent a few hours the other night (I'm a little bit of a procrastinator sometimes) making a video of this song and "My Eternal Family" (the song for March). I wanted to share, so feel free to let me know if you want either of them and I'll send you the files. I'm posting "The Family Is of God" now and I'll post the other tomorrow. I'm showing the kids the video and then using some props to teach them the first verse. I'll let you know how that goes tomorrow.

EDIT: If you'd like the video, please go here: http://singingasongisfuntodo.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-place-to-download.html. After you download the video, you can use any dvd burning software and burn it to a dvd to show on tv. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks!

Hi, I LOVE your video. I am a Primary chorister in California. When this song came out in Oct. I organized a small group of adults to sing it in my ward the Sunday before the Prop 8 vote. I felt that the message, music and spirit of the song would be an uplift for all of us who were working so hard to pass Prop 8. I'm so happy to be able to teach it to the children of our ward now. I would appreciate the files, so I can download it and then show it on the big screen in our cultural hall during Primary. Please contact me @

Hi guys! Thanks for the interest. I'm excited for you to share it with others because I think it has such a great message! I'm getting together the file to send out tonight. Because it's such a big file I'm going to send it a little bit differently, but I'll send instructions with it to make it easier. You do need Windows Movie Maker which should be standard on your computer. If not, let me know and I'll tell you where to get it. Thanks again! Melissa

Hi everyone! Disregard that last message. I decided to do it a different way. If anyone would like the link to download the video, just leave a comment or email me at mlcbarney@gmail.com. Thanks!

I too love the video and am joining the throng of hopefuls for a copy. Great job and so many of us out here appreciate what you are doing. I am an older mother and a college student and Primary president so my days of creating have been limited for now. I tell you this to let you know I meant it when I said thank you.

Hey, great name, BTW. I would LOVE a copy of the little film. I'm a DVD burning dummy, so I'm hoping my computer does it. It does music...does that mean it will do a DVD? If not, I'll have another presidency member do it or something. THANKS

Hi Melissa!

I would love to be able to use the video you made (The Family is of God). What a great tool! I'm actually being released tomorrow, but am teaching one last time. If you can't get to this before the 11th, then don't worry about it. If you can, I'd be grateful. The kids will love this!

Thanks,

I loved your video! I am from Crownpoint, New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation. Our children really enjoy videos with the music to help them learn the song. Most of the time they don't have a piano player to help them learn the song. This video I felt was wonderful and portraying the meaning of the song. I don't know how to download it though. It appears that I have to download the software..is that true. Have you considered downloading it to You Tube? Thank you!
